Failed Mediation or Successful Nap?

Sometimes a failed meditation is a successful nap.

At some point, you may think something like: “I should meditate more” or “why don’t I make time to meditate?"

Worse still, you may even feel some pangs of guilt as you confess “I stopped meditating” or "I didn’t meditate today."

I get all that, but really you can drop into a meditation of any length at any time and it can serve you for where you are in that minute.

Being of western mind, I know the feeling of wanting to “do meditation” rather than “being in practice” and witnessing whatever comes to bear.

Instead, just drop into what’s needed for you in the moment.

Being of western mind, I know the feeling of wanting to “do mediation” rather than “being in practice” and witnessing whatever comes to bear.

I also know, from my own experience, that more frequent meditation steadies the cadence of development. I remind myself more often to be present, notice my experience more fully and with more perspective, and above all, to be self-compassionate.

Speaking of self-compassion, I think it’s time for a nap.

Yoga Nidra anyone?

My message to both self and clients are to not feel guilty if you can not or did not meditate today. Instead just drop into what’s needed for you in this moment.

Perhaps after a little rest, you’ll feel like a more dignified meditation later.

A rested mind is a beautiful thing.
